About Greg Buening: I'm married with 3 grown children and live in the "Queen City of the West", Cincinnati Ohio. I took up digital photography 20 years ago and worked my way through six digital cameras and a study of digital art. Photo art is like woodworking, where a piece is refined over and over until all signs of artifice are gone and only the art remains.
Artist Statement: I look for the unusual in the usual, the mystery in the mundane, and through that process, get a glimpse of beauty. The lens accepts whatever is before it, but the art is in where the camera is pointed and when the shutter is pressed. Composition, light, and focus are the instruments that play on our memories and emotions. The art continues in the digital darkroom where contrast & color affect mood, and enhancement affects meaning.
Recent Exhibit:
Three of my photographs, "Search", "Perception", and "Contemplation" were accepted for the 15th Annual Joseph Miller Abstract Photography Exhibit from May 1 to June 1, 2026. The Juror was Ms. Mollie Isaacs, whose career spans over three decades in nature, wild life, flower, and abstract photography & who studied under Ansel Adams and Joyce Tenneson. The exhibit, which was sponsored by the Northern Virginia Alliance of Camera Clubs, includes works by 79 artists.
